inert pigments & fillers

Inert pigments are white pigments with very low tinting power (color strength). This characteristic makes them very useful as filler in paints, as white pigment when trying for for subtle shades or as is the case of chalk (calcium carbonate) for the gesso, as the primary agent that defines that paint or medium.
