How to make watercolor & gouache

Once the pigment has been sufficiently well ground, you will have a ready to use watercolor paint with a paste-like consistency.

The paste is resoluble, which means any time after the paint has dried, you can add water to wet it again as gum Arabic is a resoluble binder.

To keep the paints you have made, you can put them inside of aluminum tubes (see demo on paint tubing) or keep it in a sealed jar.
