We started this business because we believe that today’s artist can and should make his own materials for various reasons. It is a well-known fact that an artist who has knowledge of the different binders, starting from the same pigments, is able to move between techniques. Move from watercolor to acrylic or on to oil or encaustic, easily and with the utmost economy because you don't have to purchase the same colors for the different techniques.
Besides economic reasons, we at KAMAPIGMENTS feel that the ability of the artist to make his/her own paint & mediums should be regarded as a priceless addition to the artistic process. First, because it allows the artist to understand, profoundly, what his materials and tools can do. Secondly, by engaging in this activity, he knows ‘exactly’ what he is working with; and therefore exactly how the paint will perform; both, while he is working to create it and as the work lives on afterwards.
It is common knowledge that “Raw” materials cost less than processed materials. The money saved can be well placed in buying materials that are more difficult to reproduce. Materials like fabrics, brushes, papers and frames need much equipment, space and time to efficiently prepare but paints and drawing sticks can be prepared at the palette table safely and in the quantities needed. That's why we sincerely believe that a well directed activity in this domain, is the best way of gaining the knowledge leading to the mastery of your chosen direction; be it your profession or your pastime.
